EK Jewelers holds Silicone for Schools for Teachers

EK Jewelers holds Silicone for Schools for Teachers

Since the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the use of hand sanitizer and other disinfecting soaps have increased. While washing and sanitizing to help keep us healthy has made our hands rough and dry, it’s also been wreaking havoc on our rings! EK Jewelers has a solution.

The increased exposure to hand sanitizer and cleaning agents such as chlorine, bleach, rubbing alcohol, and antibacterial soaps ultimately breaks down the shine in metals and gemstones—and that shine likely won't return. This extra protection against germs can also loosen prongs that hold diamonds and other gemstones in place. Yikes!

That’s why EK Jewelers decided to create events to help educate groups of people how to keep their jewelry beautiful while keeping themselves healthy.

The first event, Silicone for Schools, is  targeted at teachers in Northeastern, Wyoming. The event will take place on Saturday, October 3 from 10 am-3 pm at the store in downtown Gillette, 217 S. Gillette Avenue.

The first 15 educators who come through the doors will be offered gift bags! There will also be mimosas, treats, and a wonderful hand paraffin wax for the ladies and gentlemen who want to clean up their dry hands. EK Jewelers will also offer $5 off silicone rings for those teachers who have their teacher ID or Key Fob on them. Join the event on Facebook to follow the discussion.

The second event, First Responders Appreciation Day, will be held Thursday, October 15, from 11 am-6 pm at the store in Downtown Gillette. Join the event on Facebook to follow the discussion!

Other tips to keep your jewelry safe while sanitizing, cleaning

EK Jewelers doesn’t want you to stop using hand sanitizer; your health and hand hygiene is imperative! However, you can keep those hands clean while keeping your ring safe at the same time. Check out these tips:

  1. Avoid rubbing hand sanitizer or harsh cleaning products directly onto your ring. When possible, remove your ring, apply hand sanitizer, let your hands dry and then put your ring back on.
  2. Wear gloves while cleaning your house.
  3. Clean your ring and bands at least once a week by soaking the jewelry in warm water and dish washing soap.
  4. If you find yourself sanitizing a lot and you can’t always remove your ring, consider purchasing a silicone ring to wear to keep your precious metals and gems safe. EK Jewelers has some available!
